Here on the following pages, you can meet the Board of Directors and also the many beautiful, hard-working people who are our volunteers online and offline. Without our dedicated volunteers aiding the Board 365 days a year, selflessly giving of their time and energy, we would never be able to accomplish building and maintaining this vibrant community.
Chairperson
Deb began her official Wiccan training in 1996 with the Georgian Tradition in Tehachapi and Bakersfield CA. Having since lived all over the country, as of 2015 she has made her home in South Carolina. An Ordained Reverend, an Eclectic Wiccan High Priestess, an animist and a modern neo Pagan Witch, Deb readily shares her passion for all things Pagan. Studying for nearly 30 years, she has discovered a love of history and reconstructionism and her paths have expanded to include traditional Irish Paganism/Polytheism. With a love for spell craft she is always up for a conversation or sharing random pagan trivia. In 2019 after some years of solitary practice, she found a long sought after home with the Pagan Alliance of the Lowcountry and served with the original leadership team and through its reorganization. She continues working to ensure all seeking Pagans find community in the Alliance as the original founders Erick and Andrea intended. Coupled with her desire to further the pagan communities' accessibility as a recognized religious entity, she is motivated to ensure Paganism remains protected in the eyes of the law, and celebrated without persecution. Like the Pagan pioneers before her, her goals for communities everywhere to continue networking together as a unified Pagan Nation remain true. She enjoys sharing space, time and energy with the members of the Alliance, helping members find their tribe, and cultivating a network for all Pagans in the region. Deb is always ready with an ear to listen and to help you implement your ideas. Serving on PAL's first Board as Chairperson alongside fellow directors, she looks forward to helping PAL continue to grow into its bright and lasting future for many generations to enjoy. Vice Chairperson
Jean McGreggor has been a practicing Pagan for close to 30 years. She started as a Wiccan but her path has wended through many iterations and she has been fortunate to be welcomed in Circles of many traditions. She has found much to appreciate in all of these and encourages acceptance and exploration in others paths. The most profound aspects of her daily practice include gratitude, awe and mindfulness. She is committed to helping facilitate community and well knows the benefits of a strong tribe. Her interests include hobby quilting, hanging out in nature, being a citizen scientist, collecting books and other habits that stretch her mind. Lovingly referred to as Mama Jean the Wise Crone, she is sought out for her grounded, practical and straight forward wisdom by those around her. Jean's experience and down to earth charisma has been an asset to the lowcountry and to PAL as she serves on its many committees, and can be found working on most of PAL's endeavors one way or another. Serving PAL since 2019, she is known across the state for her previous work on several other Pagan Boards and Councils. Secretary
Shannon Calvert has been studying and investigating various beliefs her entire life. At 13, she began an earnest solitary study into Wicca. Later on, upon moving to South Carolina she was introduced to many wonderful pagans in the local lowcountry area. Mama Pam being one of the first, helped guide her way and led her to her first local Coven, Earthbound, where she studied for 5 years. A brief hiatus out of the community to raise her 4 children, she found herself back in full force when her daughter started inquiring into paganism. Shannon is a 2nd degree eclectic Wiccan Priestess who is once again actively studying with her HPS, and looks forward to assisting the community as a High Priestess herself in the near future. Her passions and skills though many, include being able to help the community to continue to grow strong. Shannon began her tenure on the Board as its Oversight and Compliance Director, and now serves the Pagan Alliance of the Lowcountry on the Board of Directors as their Secretary. Shannon brings with her a strong desire for all pagans, regardless of their path, to feel safe and protected. You can often find Shannon in middle of everything as she loves helping plan and execute gatherings and events. According to her peers, she is truly a kind and kindred spirit, and is always there with a welcoming smile and kind words, some motivation or just an ear to listen. With a particular interest in teaching and sharing knowledge with the next generation, Shannon is a great place to start with questions as members begin their path, her bubbly personality and sincerity are warm and welcoming. Tammy Gable is a cherished cornerstone within the Pagan Alliance Community, serving as one of its esteemed founding members. With a profound dedication to fostering inclusivity and promoting the values of spirituality, Tammy has played a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of the alliance. Tammy’s journey within the Pagan Alliance began from its inception, where her passion for community building and advocacy ignited a flame of inspiration. As one of the first members, her vision and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in guiding the alliance towards its mission of creating a supportive and empowering space for Pagans and allies alike. Beyond her role as a member, Tammy holds a distinguished position on the board of directors, where her leadership and insight continue to drive the alliance forward. Her strategic vision, coupled with her compassionate approach, ensures that the Pagan Alliance remains steadfast in its pursuit of promoting understanding, respect, and acceptance of diverse spiritual paths. Tammy’s contributions extend far beyond the boardroom, as she actively engages in community outreach, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts. Her warmth, wisdom, and dedication to the Pagan Alliance Community serve as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing her. Under Secretary / Education Coordinator
Angela Mizell began exploring Paganism in the early nineties (with widely varying degrees of commitment) but became more serious in her practice in the last decade. That recommitment to spiritual development led her to seek community and eventually led her to Pagan Alliance of the Lowcountry where she currently serves as both the Under Secretary and Education Coordinator. Angela considers herself broadly spiritual but doesn’t prescribe to any specific dogma. She is solitary in her practice and particularly interested in intentionality and ritual in daily life. Her current obsessions include astrology, gardening, and staring at the moon. She also enjoys fiction writing, journaling, music, and art—all things she considers foundational to her spiritual practice. With her quick wit and southern sassy charm, Angela is most described as a delight to be around. Articulate and forthright, she is found most often utilizing her love of the arts and the written word for the communities spiritual growth, assisting the board on additional committees including leading their education program through workshops, classes and charities. Co-Treasurer / Fundraising / Volunteer Onboarding
Julie, while raised both Pagan and Christian began her personal pagan journey over 30 years ago. Raised and taught both Wicca and Folk tradition by her mother and grandmother, Julie, an eclectic high priestess in her own right, has combined these matriarchal and divine feminine crafts into her own eclectic tradition and daily practice. With a wide array of passions, Julie is drawn to all things energy, earth, and elemental and can often be found fusing her love of earth witchery, green witchcraft and kitchen witchery. You may have sat in one of her dolly classes, learning several new and unique techniques and perspectives on this old and ancient craft. You may have heard her talk of extracting her own essential oils and waters to use daily and in the cycles of the year. If you haven't, you will surely find her in the center of a laughing happy crowd though, as she artfully facilitates conversation and community. PAL's community has become a truly important aspect of her practice for her and her family, and as she serves on the Board of Directors as it's Co-Treasurer, she also serves PAL on many of its committees including, fundraising for PAL, co-leading future classes and workshops for the communities education, and fighting to preserve and protect our way of life and our crafts as open, out loud and proud Pagans. She is a strong advocate for the continued education of our youth, and promotes and assists with many functions geared towards a lasting Pagan legacy. Board Member at Large
Having volunteered as a Moderator since 2022, Dennis joined the Board of Directors in January of 2025. Having initially served as a lead volunteer, he is well versed in all aspects of the organization. He brings with him a wealth of information and dedication to the community. Having been Pagan all of his life, he is a 3rd degree trained Gardnerian Wiccan, who currently practices an eclectic pagan path. Having been part of the Charleston Pagan community for 25 years including 5 on the state CUUPS board, Dennis, like all of our Volunteers, brings to the table a deep and committed passion for the Pagan spirit of community, village and tribe. When he is not rooting for football, or playing one of the many varied games he enjoys, you can find him posting nearly every day on our FB page as well as hosting PDC every other month. With a smile and a warm hug, he is almost always available for a chat. He looks forward to serving the Pagan community for years to come, especially since Charleston holds so many dear memories for him. Board Member at large
Joining the Board of Directors in January of 2025 after having served for nearly a year as an in person volunteer, Tara brings a wealth of information, skill and practice to the board and community. A currently practicing Volva in the Norse Pagan community, she has been a practicing pagan since the age of 14. She started with Wicca initially, before discovering Druidry, where she quickly became an active member of the OBOD. Still feeling an unanswered call, she was drawn to Norse Paganism, and through many years of study, she became Volva. She previously served as Volva and Gythia for Web of Wyrd based out of West Virginia, but now runs an educational Facebook page also called "Web of Wyrd" that is an interactive learning tool for all pagans to learn, or relearn Heathenry, with the vast majority of its membership located locally here in the Lowcountry of S. Carolina. Taking on students is a private and personal matter and is not for everyone, but she always welcomes discussing that possibility with those who are genuinely interested. With a passion for Paganism, she strives to be a pillar of which the walls of PAL are held up, and to watch it grow into future generations. As a strong advocate for Pagan diversity, she champions acceptance among the varied paths found in PAL. As a bridge to gap the divide between Witches and Heathens, she takes a personal interest in aiding in communication and hopes these efforts will someday ripple outward to all Pagan communities. Tara is currently the host of Pagans in the Park, PAL's longest standing end of the month meet and greet, and you can find her there or at many of PAL's other events, where, on the move she ensures everyone has a good time and feels included. She loves a good laugh, but has a soft shoulder and a willing ear for anyone in our community. One of her many goals is to help others find the same camaraderie and belonging she herself found here.
